The Showrunner Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and a second season greenlit and underway—the writers' room opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and fan theories regarding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by public opinion, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We have some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
