Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
