Catherine's Traditional Festive Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will hear a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
